Dr. Michaela Watts

Naturopathic Doctor in Kailua-Kona

A Calling Rooted in Faith

My path into medicine has been shaped by a deep belief that the body was created with intention. I believe that what we need for health is often already present—and that when the body is supported in the right way, it has the capacity to adapt, recover, and function as it was designed to. This belief shapes how I approach care. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, I work to understand the underlying factors that may be affecting how the body is functioning and build a structured, personalized plan from there.

My goal is to help patients move beyond guesswork and toward a clearer, more consistent approach to their health.

Background and training

I completed my naturopathic training at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in British Columbia.

Nutrition and lifestyle have always been central to my work. I have followed a plant-based diet for over 20 years, and through that experience, I’ve seen both the impact of nutrition and the challenges many people face in applying it consistently.

Clinical focus

My clinical training includes time at True North Health Center in California, where I gained experience in medically supervised fasting. This continues to inform how I incorporate fasting as a therapeutic tool when appropriate. Today, my work focuses on metabolic health, detoxification, therapeutic fasting, IV therapy, and nervous system support.

How I work

My approach is structured and individualized.

Rather than applying the same protocol to everyone, I look at the patterns that may be affecting how your body is functioning and build a plan around that. This may include nutrition and lifestyle support, nervous system regulation, targeted supplementation, IV therapy, and when appropriate, therapies such as GLP-1 medications or therapeutic fasting. The focus is on improving how your body functions over time—not just addressing symptoms in the short term.

Ways to work together

I work with patients in a few different ways, depending on the level of support they’re looking for. You can be seen in person in Kailua-Kona, or work together through structured virtual programs that provide ongoing support from home.

For those looking for a more immersive experience, I also offer medically guided fasting retreats on the Big Island. Each option is designed to provide a structured and personalized path forward.

Closing

When you work with me, my goal is that you feel heard and leave with a clearer understanding of your health and a plan you can actually follow.

Personal note

Outside of my clinical work, I value simple, consistent routines—time outdoors, daily reflection, and time with my family.
